The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has set the stage for an intriguing electoral contest in the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency of Maharashtra as party leaders Supriya Sule and Sunetra Pawar gear up to face each other in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

Supriya Sule, the daughter of NCP founder Sharad Pawar, has been a prominent figure in Baramati’s political landscape since 2009, while Sunetra Pawar, wife of NCP leader Ajit Pawar, is making her electoral debut under the Grand Alliance banner.

Sunetra Pawar expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and leaders of the Mahayuti alliance for nominating her as a candidate. She acknowledged the significance of the electoral battle, noting that voters are actively participating in shaping the outcome.

The Baramati constituency, a stronghold of the NCP since its inception in 1999, encompasses six assembly segments and holds historical significance for the Pawar family. This election marks a unique Pawar versus Pawar scenario following the party split in July 2023, resulting in two factions led by Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar.

The Election Commission’s recognition of Ajit Pawar’s faction as the authentic NCP earlier this year adds an additional layer of complexity to the electoral dynamics in Baramati, setting the stage for a fiercely contested battle between the two factions within the party.
